This Thanksgiving was our second in Eugene, but only our first as an extended family since we all concluded our move in mid-2007. Last year Diana and Chris travelled down south to be with Chris' parents and sister and brother-in-law, and Tori and Paul and Granny and Jiichan had a quiet Thanksgiving a la one of Marie Calendar's pre-prepared dinners with all the fixings. Granny and Jiichan picked up the several boxes of prepared food from the back of a semi-tractor trailer in back of Marie Calendar's, and everyone gathered in Diana and Chris' home, which was where Granny and Jiichan were "living" at the time. Dinner was actually pretty good, but unfortunately, no photos were taken of that gathering and its festivities... |
This year's dinner was wholly prepared by Chris, who undertook the gargantuan task of preparing every one of the 13 courses - he literally sweated over a hot stove all morning. Actually, he looked pretty cool and non-plussed when everyone started arriving a little after two, and with only a couple of hitches, the dinner came off like gang-busters. One of the hitches: Chris found the yams in the fridge after dinner. The turkey above - no, the one on the right - boasted tail feathers with things each person was thankful for. As usual, everyone ate too much...
