The exploration of the Oregon territories continued with the Rocklin Bailey-Nagai clan, accompanied by Jiichan, visiting Eugene, Oregon for two days - this in advance of the arrival on the weekend of Granny and the Alameda Beyer-Nagai clan in Portland, Oregon, where the entire group sought to check out that city and its environs. The first Oregon character we observed was a dog acting so cool in an SUV - we figured he was either from Hollywood in his shades, or was obviously an FBI agent. We visited the downtown area, and checked out the marvelous new main library, where Venice after checking out the children's book section, practiced her budding skills with camera and lens... |
A highlight was a visit to the magnificent Skinner Butte Park, a marvel of sand, climbing structures, and water play. Venice and Xander launched themselves onto the climbing structures, loved the slides, and threw themselves into the mud of water play, though not literally, but nearly so. There was a stop at a Barnes & Noble, where Venice checked out some children's books, and then a return to Skinner Butte the next day was in order, as this park was so great. And then after dinner and just before leaving Eugene for Portland, a brief visit to a park at a nearby school yard to run off some energy - it was dark when we pulled the kids off the climbing structures, and headed north... |
