We received the call from Daddy Chris at 1:30 in the morning, saying, "We think this is it...!" Still in sleep stupor I indicated we were on our way...
Jasmin, next door neighbor, came over and cared for Venice while Mama and Daddy left the house a little after 3:30, arriving at the hospital at around 4:00 AM. We arrived at the hospital somewhere between 4:30 and 4:45, and found Mama Diana in the midst of four minute contractions which had grown to pretty intense. These continued in the same intervals and same intensity to around 7:55, at which time the doctor broke Diana's water, and the final stages of the process moved forward rather quickly - intense labor, the final pushing, was only 15 minutes, and Xander Kai was born at 8:05 AM - he topped the scales at a whopping 9 lbs. 14 oz., and 21 and 1/2 inches in length... |
I once again was the designated photographer, this time capturing the amazing event on digital memory cards. Xander entered the world as one of the most photographed of individuals - just like his big sister, Venice...
Xander had a little congestion, some fluids in his lungs that needed suctioning, so he was taken to the nursery - this separation immediately after birth, not a good thing....Daddy Chris accompanied him, as did I to record all this. After way too long in the nursery, Daddy Chris insisted that Xander be taken back to Mama Diana so she could hold and nurse him - you could tell the reluctance to bypass procedure, but Mama and baby were soon reunited - and, as you can see, it was a match made in heaven... |
