Today was an historic moment in the life of a nation, one filled with drama, pageantry, a first ever in the man being administered this sacred oath, and a regenerated hope for a new and inclusive approach to the mechanism of governance for our nation. It was a day of remembrance for the warriors of the heart who preceeded Barack Obama, who put their lives on the line in pledging to each other and to a nation their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. It was a day of hope for us as a people, for our future as a nation, and for our role in a world made small by the majesty of the internet and the air waves. The road leading into the future is fraught with severe challenges, but we have been at such crossroads before - because of who we are, and the nature of our system of governance in its truest form, we can lift ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and take those steps forward needed to meet these challenges. Today the sun shone on a stage on which a drama was enacted - but more importantly, it shone on the heart of a nation, and some of the shadows were dispelled, a portent of what hopefully lies ahead... |
I was moved several weeks prior to this day to invite the family over to share in witnessing this event - to observe the drama and ceremony, to hear the lifting of the heart of the nation through the spoken word and the lifting of voices, of the sounds of timbrel and horn, reed and drum, all in tune with the beating of the heart, as Barack Obama is administered the oath of office of the President of the United States. We gathered around noon, so the actual historic moment had already hit the ether and air waves and enveloped the planet - but, while we were a continent away from the cold though sunny setting in our nation's capitol, and several hours later, we were there tied to the pomp and ceremony via the high-tech magic of the news media. All of the images posted here were taken of the images appearing on our HDTV wide-screen - some appear as double-exposure images, and they resulted because I happened to take that shot when the images on screen were fading from one image to the next - I've included them because interestingly their juxtaposition tells part of the story of yesterday... |
