Granny and Jiichan rolled into Eugene late afternoon on June 30th, stopping initially at Tori and Paul's place, where the family gathered for the welcoming and celebration dinner - Tori and Paul and Diana and Chris had discussed matters before their arrival, and agreed they would host the new comers until they were able to move into their own home. As it turns out, that wouldn't be for some six months, but that's another story.
We visited a local park the next morning, the first of many over the coming months - the weather was not too hot, so it is outdoors for everyone. We took in the Fourth of July parade in nearby Creswell - it was a wonderful "small town" parade, and everyone really enjoyed it - later that night, we had our own safe and sane fireworks in the driveway of Diana and Chris' home. Some of the neighbors had some illegal fireworks, but that only added to the fun and excitement... |
The month was filled with visits to many parks, of which Eugene has a bundle. On Wednesdays Jiichan renewed the tradition of a Wednesday outing with Casey, but now brought Venice along, too. One of these outings involved visits to the Science Museum on the U of O campus - this is a mini-mini-version of the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, and in fact Jiichan's LHS membership card allowed entrance to the Science Museum here.
One Wednesday we visited a wonderful inter-active science program in Springfield called Minds in Motion, but found that it was closing that following Friday due to the anticipated opening of a Chucke-E-Cheese nearby - the competition is anticipated to cut so into visitors to this program, that the owner decided to close down - bummer, as this was a cool science program that the kids enjoyed for that one day. |
