We had an exceptional time one day at McKinley Park, on the site of Casey's pre-school - in addition to his throwing himself onto, under, and through the climbing structure with more abandon than he's used to, he met a new friend, Tee Lew. Tee is an 8 year old, who, like Casey, is quite bright. Tee carried on a highly intelligent conversation with me about his being home schooled. His mother explained that he had been in a special school for exceptional children, but this year they decided to home school him because the school wasn't challenging him enough. Tee spent a long time teaching Casey how to pump on the swing, and he eventually started to get it - he was persistent, and was strongly encouraged by Tee - Casey was sorely disappointed when we had to leave, though they did exchange phone numbers... |
The Alameda Beyer-Nagai clan invited Granny and Jiichan to go with them on their annual Christmas tree hunt, and Casey was given the honor of selecting this year's tree. Casey and Jiichan also returned to Jack London Square to check out things there - he asked Jiichan to take some pictures of him making faces, so he did. Then, on the 23rd we gathered with the Merry Makers to celebrate with family the holiday season, something we've done for some 40 years, give or take. On Christmas eve, the Rocklin Nagai-Baileys came to Alameda, and we all shared some opening of presents for the children. To top off the evening, we took a walk along the island's street of Christmas lights - it enthralled the children, and delighted the adults - a fitting end to a perfect day... |
