We had another visit by Venice and Xander on our regular Wednesday trek day, and this time we made it up the the Lawrence Hall of Science. We visited the section on Our Home Planet Earth and learned about our fragile ecology through interactive exhibits - we played out in the section on natural forces that act upon our earth, and witnessed the power of flowing water in moving and forming the landscape - this was more sophisticated water and mud play, but still, it was playing in water and mud - great attraction, and great fun...! And near the cafeteria we took in the skeleton of a mastadon whose bones were found out in Contra Costa County - Hmmm, I would have thought it was a larger animal....We also toyed with the Kapla sticks, building materials for intricate and fabulous towers - here Casey stands next to one someone built, and then there's the one we built - cool... |
Casey made several return visits to his favorite place, Lawrence Hall of Science - but, we also made a trek to the Chabot Space and Science Center on Skyline Blvd. in the Oakland hills. Casey built a bottle rocket, which the young Chabot staff helped him launch from their outdoor launching pad - he was so excited in seeing the launch, that he missed seeing the bottle rocket actually lift into the air, though he caught the water as it was expelled from the exhaust of the rocket, all observed with the proper protective goggles....Casey got into excavating dinosaur bones that he'd just placed under the sand....The one shot of Casey and the line of dominoes shows his disappointment in having the line topple before we were ready to launch...
